My daughter has been self harming on and off for a year now. she has been to the school councillor and that helped for a time. Her attitude and behaviour towards everyone in the household is horrific, blaming everyone for her bad day(which is everyday), but in the past 7 days she has self harmed twice and is showing us instantly. I feel like this is a cry for help and a manipulation, I just domino know what to do!

Hi, I understand that this is a difficult and upsetting situation. Depression can often make the suffer lash out at those trying to help them, pushing them away and making their depression worse. You could try, in a non-judgmental and quiet environment what's going on with her, what might have made her mood worse recently. Perhaps you could discuss this with your GP, maybe a different kind of therapy or counselling would be more helpful. You could also contact Young Minds, they're an organisation that helps families in similar situations to yourself, you can contact them on 0808 802 5544. You may also find it helpful to read our articles on teenage health and wellbeing. If you feel you need further support please e-mail us at askus@familylives.org.uk or call our freephone helpline on 0808 800 2222.
