I desperately need help with my 5 (nearly 6) year old.
She has not been great in lock down but over the last couple of weeks it's like she has a split personality. One minute she is good and then next minute I only have to say no to something and she flips! She starts hitting and kicking us over and over I've tried everything to stop her and nothing seems to work. I try asking her why she is doing it and she can't even answer. If I walk to another room she follows me and continues to hit me. She won't stay in time out, she just gets up and hits me. She won't talk or listen to me when she's like it, she really looses it.
I don't know what to do, I don't know if I should go to the doctor for help or who to go to....
Please someone help
Hi, I understand that this is a difficult and troubling situation. This may just be a phase she's going through on account of the lockdown, it's been affecting a lot of children in varying and different ways. Trying different types of discipline may be useful, also looking for different activities to help wear her out may also help. However, if you feel that this behaviour is extreme and a cause for alarm, discuss it with your GP. They might refer your daughter for assessment. You may find it helpful to read our articles on child behaviour. If you feel you need further support please e-mail us at askus@familylives.org.uk or call our freephone helpline on 0808 800 2222.
