Skeeble
My son has recently turned 10 and for the past few years has been very difficult. He has adhd for which he is medicated for but has these meltdowns where he destroys the house, smashes giant holes in the walls, breaks my things, draws on the walls, punches holes in the doors. On top of that he screams and shouts abuse at me from morning till night, using the most foul language. He is violent and often bites or punches me. He threatens me Costantly with violence. He does this all though the night too. It is currently 2am and he's up creating hell. I have had support from parenting classes, to school support and even mental health and nothing is working. I'm at my wits end. I'm merely existing at the moment being abused hourly.

Hi, I understand that this is a difficult and troubling situation. It sounds like you've tried a lot of things. Perhaps, considering his extreme behaviour, a different medication might be worth trying out since whatever he's currently doesn't seem to be working all that well, you could discuss this with your GP. I'm sure you've tried a whole load of different kinds of discipline, maybe if you've found one that kind of works stick to it for a while and see how that goes. You may find the UK ADHD Partnership website useful to look through, it has a lot of resources for parents. You can also contact Young Minds, they're an organisation that helps families in similar situations to yourself, on 0808 802 5544. If you feel you need further support please e-mail us at askus@familylives.org.uk or call our freephone helpline on 0808 800 2222.
